GRADE II LISTED HOUSE REFURBISHMENT

The Old Customs Storehouse

HOUSE REFURBISHMENT | SHOREHAM-BY-SEA

The Old Customs Storehouse was a loving house refurbishment that combined both modern features and old school craftsmanship in a Grade 2 listed property. Situated in the middle of Shoreham-by-sea, Sussex, this historic building has an abundance of character and beautiful design features enhanced by our careful attention to detail.

A full property renovation was needed with this project. Initially, this took the form of structural pattress bracings and pattress plates to prevent wall spread and maintain the integral structure of the building. Timbers were repaired and replaced where necessary, and woodworm treatment undertaken. Flint and masonry repairs were also needed in various places. To replace the old worn out flooring, new timber floor boards were laid. To tie in with the look of the building, these were salvaged from the Old Shoreham Yacht Club before demolition. Then there was the complete redecoration of both the exterior and interior. So this was a lot more involved than the average house refurbishment.

The interior had a complete makeover that was sympathetic to the age of the building. New ledge and brace doors were handmade by our skilled craftsmen, who also undertook bespoke cabinetry and created a beautiful walk in wardrobe. In addition, they hand built made to measure book cases.

Unsuitable fireplaces were replaced with ones that were more in keeping with the property. And to complete the house refurbishment and bring the property completely up to date, two new bathrooms were fitted and tiled, together with an additional toilet and a separate utility room.
